About this timer: 20-20-20 Rule for Digital Nomads

Why is eye strain a particular problem for digital nomads?

Nomads work in unpredictable environments — bright cafes with glare, dim coworking spaces, tiny laptop screens, inconsistent desk heights. You rarely have an optimized ergonomic setup, and you often work longer hours to make the most of a productive day before exploring. All of that adds up to more eye strain than a controlled office environment.

I work on a laptop. Does that make it worse?

Yes. Laptops put the screen closer to your face and at a lower angle than external monitors, which forces your eyes to work harder. The smaller screen means smaller text, more scrolling, and more eye movement. If you can, use an external monitor or a laptop stand that raises the screen to eye level.

What if I'm in a cafe with no distant view?

You don't need a window. Just look at the farthest point available — the back wall, another table across the room, the counter. Anything farther than 20 feet (6 meters) works. The point is to relax your near-focus muscles, and even looking across a medium-sized room helps.

Can I use this offline?

Once the page loads, the timer runs entirely in your browser with no internet required. Useful for airplane work sessions or spots with unreliable Wi-Fi. Just open the page before you go offline.
